Bring your BBQ to the Beach

Living in the Gulf, fall season can be very confusing, sometimes the weather is so cold that a layer of thermals under a layer of winter clothing isn’t enough and sometimes the weather is the perfect beach weather. Bearing in my mind that these two different kinds of weather are on days straight after each other, trust me figuring out what to wear for the day can be pretty stressful!

Last Friday, we had one of those perfect beach weather days, where it is not too hot that you can’t breathe and not too cold that you have to layer up. So we had to use the opportunity and go to the beach!

In this blog post, I will share some essential beach items as well as some tips to get your A-BBQ game!

To startup a charcoal grill-

I’m pretty sure everyone loves the taste of char-grilled food, I don’t know why the taste of anything on a charcoal grill tastes better!

Step #1

If your grill is deep add some sand before adding the coal to give the coal a rise.

Pile the coal in one place, keeping them close to each other – Avoid breaking the coal as it will ensure you have an even layer of heat.

Step # 2

Add a firelighter liquid and using matches light your coal.

Step # 3

Keep fanning the coal to ensure the fire you lighted doesn’t go off.

Step# 5

Once the coal starts turning white, it has heated enough to be used. Spread it over the grill. IMG_2664

What to grill?

Everything!

You can literally grill anything you want, in my case we grilled some veggies, a Salad, meat skewers, Kebab, Chicken skewers, some chestnuts and some marshmallows!

Always start with Veggies as it gives the coal some time to heat up further and get to a temperature (400*C) which is good to cook meat and chicken in and ensure they are tender!

Simply stick a wooden skewer stick through different vegetables and put them on the grill!

After your vegetables (Garlic, tomato, pepper, hot pepper and onions) are done grilling, you can chop them up add a squeeze of lemon and a sprinkle of salt and then enjoy an infusion of flavors!

Chicken Skewer

After that, proceed to add the chicken skewers on the grill. I marinated the chicken pieces a day.

The Chicken Marinate –

Ingredients:

  • 500 g of boneless chopped chicken
  • 1/2 cup olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 3 cloves garlic, chopped
  • 3 tablespoons onion powder
  • 1/2 cup chopped fresh parsley
  • 1/2 cup of yogurt
  • 1½ cups beer

Mix the ingredients all together

Meat skewers and kebab

Then Proceed to add the Meat Skewers and kebab-

For my meat skewer seasoning I added some salt and pepper along side some kiwi pieces (as it makes the meat less chewy and more tender). IMG_2693

For the kebab:

Mix the ingredients well with the minced meat and roll into an oval shape

Corn and chestnuts

Char- grilled corn and chestnuts are a must! Not only is the flavor exceptional, they are fun to eat.

My famous Frutti Greens salad makes a second appearance on this sunny day

And that is a feast served!

Things you should bring with you to the beach:

  • Sunscreen – This goes first because I forgot to get one, and got sunburned 🙂
  • Towel
  • wet wipes and hygiene
  • A cap
  • lots of water
  • Chairs (if not provided)
  • First aid kit
  • Torch light – if you are planning to stay after the sunsets
  • A lot of entertainment – a book, a volley ball, play cards.
  • A lot of snacks – chips, marshmallows, nuts.
